Fast Trax 50K
Jun 19, 2012
I ran the Fast trax 50k last Saturday at Gold bar park. This is a great local event put on by Jack Cook and his crew from his run and ski shop. This was the second year I have ran this event (last year I did the 30k), and it was great to see the number of participants grow.
As I hit the start line, my goal was simple run a controlled race, keeping my early pace easy, so I would not implode late in the race. Overall the day went well, and I was able to hold a decent pace throughout with my last 10k loop differing by 10 minutes compared to my first.
I took a few valuable things from the race: 1. My strength focus training seems to be working. 2. I used only gels for this race, I am not sure if the intake was enough, but it sat well with my stomach. 3. I feel I need to continue to work on my hydration, I was depleted towards the end and could not get enough fluid in. This may be caused by two things, not enough pre-race hydration or not enough fluid intake early in the race.
A positive step forward towards my goal of round 2 in San Francisco.
