Orthopedic Surgeons

Dr. Sheps specializes in the surgical and non-surgical care for patients with shoulder conditions. This includes the diagnosis of your shoulder condition, patient education about the shoulder and it’s disorder, non-operative care and rehabilitation with our qualified physiotherapists and surgical care and post-operative guidelines.

Dr. Sheps practice cares for both private and publicly funded patients. Patients from both Alberta and British Columbia, as well as patients from outside of both provinces, may access private care. Wait times to see Dr. Sheps vary depending on where you are being seen and whether you opt to be cared for in the public system or privately. In the public system, the wait time may be up to two years, but can vary depending upon the urgency of the problem. Dr. Sheps sees public patients at our clinic in Servus Place and the Sturgeon Hospital in St. Albert.

Dr. Chan and Dr. Lapner specialize in the surgical and non-surgical care of patients with conditions of the hand, wrist, and upper extremities. Wait times to see Dr. Chan and Dr. Lapner vary. The wait time may be up to one year, but can vary depending upon the urgency of the problem. Dr. Chan and Dr. Lapner see public patients at our clinic in Servus Place and the Sturgeon Hospital in St. Albert.

If you are being seen in the public system, you will require a referral from your family physician or physiotherapist (which can be done by one of our qualified physiotherapists).

If you choose to book an assessment for an out of province surgery consultation with Dr. Sheps, you can be assessed by one of our physiotherapists as to your suitability as a surgical candidate first, then see Dr. Sheps at either our location in Servus Place or in Vancouver at the False Creek Surgery Centre, where you will usually be seen within two weeks of an appointment request. If you wish to pursue care for your shoulder privately, please complete the contact form http://drdavidsheps.ca/ (it’s just on his main homepage, no specific page).  More details on how to access private services at http://drdavidsheps.ca/. If surgery is determined to be the best way to manage your symptoms, surgery may occur the same day, the following day, or at the time that is most convenient for you. If you are from outside the Vancouver region, arrangements are usually made for an overnight stay at the False Creek Surgery Centre. False Creek Surgical Centre is competitive with other private surgical options that are available, with the advantage that you are being cared for in a fully accredited surgical centre in Canada. Cost does vary with the type of procedure that is being performed. Please contact the False Creek Surgery Centre regarding pricing and financing options that may be available.

Dr. Sheps, Dr. Chan and Dr. Lapner will manage your care following surgery, whether you are looked after in the public system or privately. As well, Dr. Sheps, Dr. Chan and Dr. Lapner will remain in close contact with your physiotherapist during the course of your rehabilitation following surgery, which can be done at any one of our four clinic locations with our qualified physiotherapists.
