What to Expect At Your First Visit

May 31, 2010

On Your First Visit

Initially when you come in to the clinic, we will have some forms for you to fill out at the front desk. We ask that you arrive a few minutes early for your appointment to provide time to complete this.

Your Physiotherapy Assessment will be approximately 60-75 minutes in length, in which the therapist will discuss your case history, the nature of the injury and any other relevant information. and contributing factors. Along with a physical evaluation of the affected area they will determine the cause of the injury and how best to treat you as effective and efficiently as possible. From there, they will determine and build treatment plan that will best suit your needs. They will then discuss the treatment plan with you and let you know what you can expect going forward.

On Follow Up Visits

Subsequent visits can range dependent on your treatment plan. On average, they're approximately 60 minutes in length. The session may involve various forms of treatment based on the individual’s needs.

Physiotherapy Assessments

There are two options available when booking your initial assessment. You can book for a Private Assessment to see a Physiotherapist as soon as possible. The fee for the assessment is $95 but our clinics do offer direct billing to most extended health care companies. If you would prefer to wait for a funded assessment, you can do so but there may be a bit of a wait (usually a few days to a week) due to the limited amount of funding allotted to each clinic location. Please note, that our Fort Saskatchewan location does not offered funded appointments at this time. Once scheduled for your funded appointment, you will need to bring a copy of your Alberta Health Care Card so we can submit to the Community Rehabilitation Program of Alberta Health Services for your visit. Due to the limited amount of funding allotted for Physiotherapy, usually only the initial visit is funded unless there is a fracture, surgery, AISH, or low income/temporary hardship status.

What To Bring With You

Physiotherapy Assessment
* Alberta Health Care number (if you are booking for a Community Rehabilitation Funded appointment)
* Extended Health Care information (if applicable to your appointment)
* You do not need a doctor's referral to book in but should you have one, please bring it in with you so we can add a copy to your file as some extended health care companies may require one to submit

Motor Vehicle Accident
The insurance forms AB-1 and AB-2 will be completed by our staff at your initial appointment
* Policy Number
* Police report
* Claim number for the accident

Clothing
* Looser fitting or accessible garment to access a specific body site ie. if you've booked an appointment for your knee, please wear or bring a pair of shorts so your therapist can access the area
* We do have gowns, t-shirts and shorts that you can use for the appointment if need be

Cancellation And No Show Policy

We require 24 hours notice for the cancellation of your appointment.  If you cancel an appointment with less than 24 hours notice, or no show, a cancellation fee of $30 will be charged to you.

*Please note that if there is a valid extenuating circumstance, please let our staff know and the cancellation fee may not be observed.*
