GLA:D™ Back Pilot Program

Feb 19, 2019

Active Physio Works is one of the 20 clinics selected to run the GLA:D™ Back Pilot Project in Alberta. The GLA:D™ Back Pilot Project has three pillars: patient education, structured exercise and data collection.

"The education component about back pain is really critical to the program. Lots of people with back pain and those who treat it have a wide range of ideas about what back pain is and isn't. This program, which is derived from the latest evidence, creates a tidy package easily adopted by both participants and clinicians that provides a better understanding of back pain and what can be done to improve function, movement and discomfort," says Greg Kawchuk, BSc, DC, MSc, PhD.

Full the full article from the University of Alberta on the program, visit https://bit.ly/2GtVo2Y

Once implemented, the GLA:D™ Back Pilot Project will run as a group class format with two education sessions and eight weeks of structured exercises. At the end, participants will be given a final evaluation to see how their pain is being managed.

For our Active Physio Works GLA:D™ Back Pilot Project, we are looking for the following criteria (at least 18 years of age and persistent low back pain that has impacted daily activities for >1 month (not acute). Generally, if you have been experiencing back pain have ruled out any serious pathology from your doctor, and are stuck in that limbo of what to do next to manage your back pain, this can be a great step. If you know anyone or are the population and are interested in being a part of the GLA:D™ Back Pilot Project, email us at [email protected]

The GLA:D™ Back Pilot Project will be offered at our Active Physio Works Tudor Glen and Magrath locations.

Our Physiotherapists will assess who is best suited for the GLA:D™ Back Pilot Project and will contact you directly in regards. Once our initial populations have been filled, we will be compiling a waiting list so if you think it could be a good fit, email us now to apply.
