Vertigo & Dizziness: You may not have to "live with it"
Feb 22, 2016
Benign paroxysmal position vertigo (BPPV) is one of the most common causes of vertigo. Luckily one of the most treatable forms as well. The cause of BPPV is often insidious (happens with no major incident) or can be traumatic in nature. Regardless of the cause, it is a problem with the inner ear. Here's an analogy, think of the inner ear as a traffic circle (your semi-circular canals), with cars (the tiny hairs within your semicircular canals). What guides movement and allows traffic to flow freely is the appropriate combination of braking, gas, movement, while entering and exiting. Now, we all have experienced snow (which is like the unwanted crystals in your inner ear). This disruption in the flow of traffic and appropriate combination of braking, gas, and movement causes lots of emotions (anger, fear, frustration), also known to our inner ear as vertigo.
BPPV is the result of an imbalance between our ears ("snowing" in one ear and not the other. Now what can we do about it? Here's another analogy. Our Physiotherapists can take the headache of this game, like the symptoms caused by vertigo and turn into a WIN.
Come see us, where one of our trained professionals (myself, James, Amanda or Adam) will guide that "snowflake" back to it's original home. This may include a variety of head movements, twists and turns. Turn the frustration experienced with vertigo into a WIN by visiting us today.
