Why Active Physio Works: Jared Henry
Oct 02, 2017
Thank you Jared Henry for sharing his story of why Active Physio Works for him:
In 2014 I was living a regular life; until a spinal cord injury changed everything. My injury left me almost completely paralyzed from the waist down, but I refused to give up. I knew that the rehab would be slow and was going to take a lot of work, but the reward would be worth it. I had an amazing team of physio therapists helping and supporting me literally every step of the way.
It wasn't until I took my first steps, a week after surgery, that I truly grasped the severity of my situation. It took me 5 minutes, a whole lot of sweat and everything I had to walk from one end of my hospital bed to the other. The pain was excruciating, the numbness was unbearable, the odds seemed stacked against me! All I could focus on was that I was walking. So, with my will to recover driving me and my physiotherapists there to guide me, I was well on my way to recovery.
It's been 3 long years since my recovery began, I attend physio once a week. My team has helped me assess, as well as treat, new and ongoing issues. I have regained my ability to walk, with some limitations, but I'm still pushing for more. This year, I joined Team Rehab in the MS Bike ride from Leduc to Camrose, a 180 km bike ride. Physiotherapy helped me get back on my feet and back to feeling more like myself.
