Fighting My Way Back From Injury
Nov 30, 2017
2017 started off great! Completed two half marathon’s in spring and began training for my first Full Marathon. Then it all fell apart – I began to notice cramping in my right calf which eventually lead to incredible pain in the back of my knee – and it was over.
Summer was VERY long while I rested my injury and did no running! I started swimming and did some spin classes but it just wasn’t the same….. nothing could replace a good run with friends.
I needed help to get back into my running shoes, resting just wasn’t enough. It was time to bring in some professionals! I began working with my physical therapist regularly who provided manual therapy, IMS and a home exercise program. My home exercise program kept me busy between treatments, even though I struggled with the discipline of exercising on my own, it consisted of band work, body weight resistance exercises and weighted movements. I was introduced to Air Relax compression treatments which I feel were beneficial in getting me back to running.
If you're not familiar with Air Relax it uses controlled air pressure to provide compression to limbs compromised by poor circulation and is not just a treatment for sports injuries.
Compression can assist with treatment for:
- Venous insufficiency
- Lymphedema
- Sport Injuries
- Poor Blood Circulation
- Circulatory & Peripheral Vascular Conditions
I am happy to be back training and working on my return to half marathon running in January with Mickey in Disney World.
