Get Back to School Fitness for Parents: Exercise Program and Challenge with Ed Shields PT
Aug 30, 2018
Two years ago I wrote about my fitness journey doing a 90day program. Like most people, I struggle with juggling the demands of work and family life with trying to find some time for myself and my health. I wanted to demonstrate how someone can make a commitment to a program and stick with it and have time to have a balanced life. I did not complete the program in 90days as I did find that unrealistic for myself due to illness and travel but I continue to do many of the workouts to keep my fitness levels up. The feedback I received afterwards was great and I had many people tell me that they would have liked to do the program with me. That brings me to now.
School is just around the corner and many patients I have talked to did not keep up their fitness over the summer. Myself, I am nursing a couple of injuries that are keeping me from running. I am going to start another fitness program but I wanted to invite people to join me this time so we can share this together and help motivate each other to reach our goals. So what are we going to do?
I am in the process of reviewing fitness apps for us all to use. I really enjoyed the P90X3 by Beachbody but I did feel that a 90day commitment may be a bit hard for some people to start with. Cost can also be an issue, so I am looking at the free apps and there are many to choose from. As I am nursing an injury that prevents me from running, running apps are out (and not everyone likes to run). I think a 30day program is a good start and will be just enough to get some initial results. As most of you are as busy as I am, workout length needs to be enough for results but not too long that people will have a hard time to get it done. A 30minute workout should be enough to squeeze into most peoples' daily routine, so lets plan for that. I am not planning a diet routine, but many apps have that as an added feature, I just think that too many changes right away may be hard for some people to commit to, so lets just start with exercise. So what is the time line?
Well, I hope to have chooen a plan by the end of the week. Next week is the start of school and I am sure that many of you will be crazy busy like me, so starting then may not be a good idea. Lets plan for the 17th of September as a start date. That date will allow people to think about it, down load the app and sign up. I do want you to track your metrics (ie. Weight, measurements, before and after pictures) but I will not have you share that information with me. Tracking metrics will help you to see the results in many forms and help you to be motivated to keep up your fitness journey once this has ended. Follow me on twitter and keep checking the clinic facebook page or instagram feed to see updates. I will blog weekly and share some pictures and videos as I can and hopefully we can have some fun getting fit together.
